Николай Кременцов – один из немногих историков, занимавшихся этой темой. В своей книге « Революцио…

We are constantly under pressure to define the “now.” When did it begin? What does it include? When will it end? Recent attempts to capture this moving target have offered an array of starting points--the end of World War II, 1968, the end of the Cold War, the start of the new millennium, 9/11, the 2008 financial crisis. These attempts have also offered an array of periodizing concepts--postmodernism, post-postmodernism, late capitalism, neoliberalism, the anthropocene, the post-civil rights era, the post-human.

We propose to respond to and circumvent this pressure in two ways. First, by creating a dialogue between our periodizing concerns and recent literature and art. Second, by contextualizing our concerns against recent developments in politics, science, technology, philosophy, and education. We aim to illuminate what makes the now new—and how and why we should s…

Copilul de Aur & Laura Vass - Te-as sechestra, te-as sigila (Official Video) 2015

When I started to study Romanian in 2004, I was not sure how to go about it. I had a wonderful teacher Georgiana Galateanu from UCLA. I really wanted to catch up on my knowledge of Romanian. She was always so kind and motivating that I was able to make some great progress in relatively short time. One thing, I remember vividly is her advice to listen to Romanian Radio and Songs. In that advice, I found four additional teachers of Romanian language. The most important among these were undoubtedly Laura Vass and Sorin Copilul de Aur. Laura kind of reminded me of my past in India. Her songs with Sorin Copilul de Aur like Buzele Tale, and Cine e inima mea were highly instructional. But then my life put me in Turkic Studies and I soon forgot about them. Also, Laura Vass apparently disappeared from the pop scene of Romania.

Yesterday, I got a surprise phone call from a dear friend from Romania. Her voice sounded as if she was in next room. Her friendship, I have always cherished through out…
