The most recentwave of Russian-speaking Jewish immigration to North America (1970s-1990s) incubated a rich panoply of talented artists, filmmakers, musicians, and writers; all of whom conveyed cultural capital from the Soviet Union to the West. Contemporary Jewish, immigrant writers from the former Soviet Republics, including David Bezmozgis, Boris Fishman, Keith and Masha Gessen, Michael Idov, Sana Krasikov, Gary Shteyngart, Anya Ulinich, Lara Vapnyar, and Anya von Bremzen, are upending the definition of Jewish immigrant literature.The writers in this community have produced collectively a wide-range of textual creative endeavors: memoirs, short story collections, novels, non-fiction, cookbooks, and finally a graphic novel.

The Slavic-Eurasian Research Center of Hokkaido University apologizes for the delay of call for the Center’s Foreign Visiting Fellow Program of the next academic year. The delay was caused by Hokkaido University’s attempt to restructure the whole foreign visitors system, which affected the SRC foreign visitors system as well. Hokkaido University decided to start a new foreign visitors system and the SRC finds it possible to run its foreign visitor program within the new University’s system. Therefore, we are pleased to announce the thirty-seventh round of the SRC’s Foreign Visitors Fellowship Program for 2015-2016. Because of the delay of start, the SRC urges all potential applicants to prepare necessary documents intensively, by the deadline on September 20, 2014.

Job: Assistant professor, tenure-track position at NYU (20th-century Russian literature, Modernism and/or poetry)

The Department of Russian & Slavic Studies at New York University invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position at the rank of assistant professor from scholars whose work focuses on 20th-century Russian literature. Specialization in Modernism and/or poetry particularly desirable; other areas of specialization welcome as well.
Position is to begin September 1, 2015, pending budgetary and administrative approval. Duties will include undergraduate and graduate teaching and departmental service; teaching load is two courses per semester. Must have the PhD in hand by September 1, 2015.  

We will begin reviewing applications by October 1, 2014; the deadline for applications is October 17, 2014. First-round interviews will be conducted at the ASEEES conference in San Antonio, TX (November 20-23).
