I dedicate this post to my friend, colleague and a former professor of the Graduate School of Education and Information Studies at the University of California, Los Angeles - Dr. Clara M. Chu.
Congratulations to her on her new position as the chair and professor of the Department of Information Studies in the University of North Carolina in Greensboro where she continues her journey in the field of Information Studies, beginning August 3, 2009.
Following the myths and norms of American professionalism, I don't like to entertain the posts of personal emotive nature on this blog, but I believe that as an author, I reserve rights to post following the general exceptions to the accepted rule. I believe that the exceptions are made to provide an outlet to free expression when one has to laud the positive enormous and constructive efforts of the people in one's life.
In our lives, we see many people arriving and leaving without much notice. Some of these individuals check in when you least expect it, but they end up staying for good. The life becomes difficult without the presence of these individuals. The life becomes bearable because these individuals shield us –the humanity from excessive solar flares (and this is a metaphor). Some name these individuals to be fereshteh (a Persian term) or Malak (in Arabic), and I simply call them blessing of the fate. Remember, I am an impossibly grotesque fatalist in Russian Slavophile tradition. I am exaggerating. I am an Indian-American, so here I go again. Now, now, I should not take any positions for every civilization has its merits and culture as such enriches and rejuvenates through the dialogue and interaction with other cultures. Multiculturalism is one way to look at life and that is what Dr. Chu opened my eyes to. As a professor, she was always there for the students who needed her help and advice. Her selfless dedication to Information Studies will be missed by many students and other colleagues at UCLA. Once again, heartfelt congratulations to Clara!
Le dire una cosa mas que me has enseñado una mantra especial-Si se Puede! Gracias por todo! Y Hasta Luego! До свидания !
