I took this picture at Sagaan Mornin tourbase, near Sukhaia.

Baikal: New Information Technology in Education, ULAN UDE, July 2008

August 1, 2008

After a three week long visit to Russian Federation, I am finally back home in Los Angeles. I enjoyed every moment of my visit to various Russian libraries. One of the highlights of my visit was to participate in an international scientific conference called "New Information Technologies in Education-Baikal". Besides exchanging ideas with my Russian colleagues, I had a wonderful opportunity to visit Baikal Lake. I consider myself very fortunate to have had this opportunity. I am so homesick for Baikal and Ulan Ude, for my Russian and Buryat friends. Russian song about Baikal titled, "Славное море, священный Байкала" is really true personification of Baikal.

Here is the program of the conference.

Greetings from Ulan-Ude, Buryatia

Dear Readers,

Thank you for continuing to visit my effort at establishing a blog that is dedicated to Slavic Studies Librarianship. I understand that perhaps the name of the blog should have been something like blog that deals with the minorities of Russia Federation.
I would really like input from all of you in the forms of comments about any suggestions about the name.
I am currently in Ulan Ude on a visit to Russian Federation. It has been 18 years since I last visiting Russian Federation. Much has changes since then, however much has remained the same in this part of the world. I visitied Baikal lake yesterday and fell in love with Siberia in summertime.

World Bank Database Trial at UCLA Library

Although, the following trial is not directly related to Slavic Studies, I have decided to post it for general informational purposes for my faculty and students.

The UCLA Library announces trial to two new World Bank databases. Trial ends August 31, 2008. Please send me some feedback on how useful these databases are in your area.
